Hughey Avenue and South Street Reopen in Downtown Orlando
Hughey Avenue and South Street Reopen in Downtown Orlando
Sections of two roads in the heart of downtown Orlando, closed since June, will reopen Friday, Sept. 18. This will allow downtown drivers to forget the detours and get right where they are going.

Hughey Avenue between Church and South streets, and South Street between Division and Hughey avenues, will reopen Friday evening. Drivers on Hughey Avenue will be able to access westbound Interstate 4 directly. Eastbound I-4 drivers exiting onto South Street will be able to continue through downtown without having to detour.

Hughey Avenue was closed as part of a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project. The project was recently completed and now provides the foundation for future ramps, from westbound Interstate 4 to State Road (S.R.) 408.  South Street was closed by the City of Orlando, due to the construction of the new Amway Arena.

The reopened roads will let downtown Orlando drivers travel straight through downtown without detouring out of their way.
