From 2005 to 2007, the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) built several new ramps at the Interstate 4/US 192 interchange, two US 192 bridges over I-4 and re-built other ramps at the interchange to relieve congestion and bottlenecks in the area. This interchange is one of the busiest in the region, and serves as a gateway to Walt Disney World, one of the world’s top tourist destinations. But there is still more work to be done to improve traffic flow on this stretch of I-4.
FDOT is planning to reconfigure the eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Osceola Parkway. This ramp will run underneath two existing ramps and a pair of US 192 bridges, then fly over another ramp to connect to Osceola Parkway. This kind of ramp configuration is referred to as “braiding” and will eliminate the conflict between vehicles merging onto eastbound I-4 from US 192 and cars exiting onto Osceola Parkway from US 192 and eastbound I-4.
The public will have a chance to learn more about the plans for the new ramp when FDOT hosts a public meeting:
DATE: Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009
